After his success at the Umtata TT, Edward Hooiveld was outrun on the sprint to the line at the Nong Chaeng GP. Despite a gruelling flight from South Africa that left the Dutch rider little time for preparation, he was still in fine form on the starting line. The race stayed together right till the final climb of the day, when Mark Latten's Ripson team set a blistering pace that completely destroyed most of the main field; with Udo Greve and Hooiveld sitting tight through the punishment. In an outstanding jump off on the climb Udo Greve looked set to clinch victory, but sadly hit the wall before the finish. Eventually being passed by his experienced team mate Hooiveld and Latten.
As the finish line beckoned Ed Hooiveled broken for the line, but was pegged back by his countryman Latten who had the stronger legs at the end of the stage. Hooiveld was once again smiling as he held on to 2nd place and watched the shattered figure of Udo cross the line in 3rd. Hooiveld was full of complements for Latten, "Mark was phenomenal! He had the legs for the sprint and deserves the win today...Ripson really bossed it out there". On yet another podium finish Hooiveld said he was "over the moon and I feel I'm really still settling into the team...Definitely got thank my team mates who kept me in it and of course Udo was immense!".
Greve was unavailable for comment after the race, being whisked to the team bus by manager Blazon, who later said "Udo was so unlucky today, we think he maybe didn't hydrate well enough the evening before, so sadly he cracked badly near the end". On Hooiveld's continuing success Blazon just smiled and said "a lot of people were confused by my signing of Ed, I think the understand my thinking now...He put in a great ride today, kept Udo in there as they hit the climb, played a supporting role, sat back when Udo went and then almost took the stage at the end. Class!".
Blazon was also quick to point out that there had been other great performances from the team at Nong Chaeng, with both Leon Partee and Theo Looze making it into the top 9; stating "we are really encouraged by Leon and Theo's rides today. Both guys have been making promising advances in training and they are both definitely in the picture for the future".
So, as the team rolled out of Nong Chaeng the news from the Colonels Bucket camp is...It's all go-Ed!
